This shit will never work because nobody understands how it works. Not only that, but from a technical aspect this seems like a dead-end.

He claims freenet is an alternative to centralized services. So instead of having you connect to a server to get data, you connect to "peers" who have the data. What I fail to understand is how that data is passed around. Is it like a torrent, or does it work like soulseek where you just get the entire file from the same guy? What about that chat program, River? I looked up a video about it and it's just a 1h video with no footage of how the program looks like. I seeked around and he talks about "his uncle and how he's an inspiration to him".

The saddest part is that they've been at it for 25 years and still have no users. It's not a marketing problem at this point, everyone has heard of freenet but it has such a bad reputation its basically unsalvageable.

He claims that decentralized services will "fix" the modern internet because that type of system is more censorship resistant. But from what I'm seeing, --freenet just lets me connect to peers directly, so how am I supposed to be anonymous if im sharing some anti-government document from the UK?-- Edit: Apparently they use some sort of tor-like routing, but they have some weird system where you need to trust friendly peers. My god.

Freenet wants to bring the HTTP server to your local machine. That's pretty much all I understood from listening the first 10 minutes of this video.
