Several people including me notice that the internet is dying.
I suspect that most people that escaped are living in hotels.
They use an intranet network.
What do they need from "the internet" ?
At most a mirror or bridge to youtube and wikipedia.
All the hoarders that are part of the network would have needed files.
Social networks systems could be forked or new stuff is created.
Completely separated. Disdain for us that got into the Covid/AI timeline.
2019 -> 2020 is probably considered the no-return point, after this you go towards the corporate event horizon, the panopticon, the time where what humans created got raped by machines and nobody can know real from fake anymore.
However I personally enjoy the current time.
